Parker and I took a road trip in July to the Four Corners area. This is where Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico all meet and the only place in the United States where four states come together. As an Arizona native, you would think I have been there, but this was my first time. I have always wanted to go, and so did Parker.
The first leg of our trip involved driving through Holbrook. Here we saw a town ravaged by the throes of the economy. There's NO vacancy at the Notel, and no income to fix the lettering.
We stopped at a little place with a dinosaur. They weren't real. I was disappointed. Parker bought a couple of trinkets.
Then we zoomed on over to Gallup, where Parker was introduced to the sight of a Native American fellow passed out in front of a restaurant. From there we headed north to Farmington, New Mexico, to spend the night. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub and relaxed watching TV:
The next morning we zoomed on up to Durango, Colorado, which is gorgeous. We went to Honeyville to get Bee souvenirs and then shopped in downtown Durango. We weren't there long, however, as we wanted to get to the Four Corners as soon as possible.
I had remember reading about the Four Corners and from what I understood it was a white X painted on asphalt. But now they have a really nice monument with Native Americans selling in each corner or state. We bought some souvenirs. Parker purchased a cool Buffalo bone knife with a deer skin handle. We also purchased matching T-shirts. It was hot and we were sweaty.
From there we zoomed on through the reservation and we thought about going to Canyon deChelley but there was a giant storm cloud over it so we decided to go on home. It was a great little trip for Parker and myself. We enjoyed listening to spooky old radio shows and cool music. Parker had a great time and it was a great father-son bonding time.
